NATIONAL CHESS CHAMPIONSHIPS 2015 (FIDE & GCA RATED)
This year’s national chess championships shall take place in November 2015. The format and qualification to play the national championships shall be as follows.
EVENT CATEGORIES
This event shall feature the Masters, Open, Women’s, and Junior categories.
Apart from the masters’ category which is strictly by invitation, all other playing categories are open to all players in that fall within the category.
REGISTRATION FEES
Free for paid up members of the GCA.
GHC 60 for all others.
FORMAT AND QUALIFICATION FOR MASTERS CATEGORY
FORMAT: The masters’ category of the national chess championships shall be a closed tournament and shall feature 10 players in the country to compete for the national title.
It shall be a round-robin tournament which ensures all players are exposed to the same level of opposition during the tournament.
TIME CONTROL: 90 MINUTES+30 sec
Tie-breaks shall be by
- The match result between players in question;
- The Sonnenborn-Berger points
- Direct encounter (blitz)
QUALIFICATION: The top 8 GCA rated players as at 1st October 2015 shall gain automatic qualification to play in the masters’ category. The ratings list shall consider only active players. (Players who have played in at least 3 GCA/FIDE recognized tournaments in the year). The technical committee shall give consideration to two outstanding players who do not fulfill the rating regulations as Wild Card Players. More consideration shall be given to far away from the capital where most of the chess competitions are centered.
