According to the Ghana Chess Association president Philip Ameku, the aim of their visit is to continue the mentorship program which is aimed at producing the first ever Chess Grandmaster from Ghana.
Earlier this year in May, Maurice Ashley was in Ghana for a three day visit where he conducted training session which was hosted by the African Regent Hotel which was targeted at the young chess talents in the country.
Their visit to Ghana also coincides with the ‘year of return, Ghana 2019’ launched by Ghana’s President Nana Akufo-Addo September 2018 in Washington DC, giving fresh impetus to the quest to unite Africans on the continent with their brothers and sisters in the diaspora.
